A Thibodaux man received a 20-year sentence Monday after pleading guilty to drug charges from almost three years ago.

Allen Wilson, 33, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Wilson had two previous convictions for possession of cocaine and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

“Whenever you take an habitual drug offender off the streets for this length of time, the community benefits,” said Lafourche Parish District Attorney Camille A. Morvant.

Wilson was arrested Nov. 11, 2005, after fleeing his vehicle during a traffic stop. During the foot pursuit, Wilson threw two bags of cocaine on the roof of a house and officers found a loaded 9mm-caliber gun.

An additional 17 grams of cocaine were found in the console of the vehicle Wilson was driving.

The gun was later traced to Wilson’s then-girlfriend, who lives in Donaldsonville.

Wilson originally was set to go to trial in November 2006 but was twice delayed. He was set for trial again in November 2007, but he failed to appear. He was arrested a month later on a bench warrant and was unable to post $1 million bond.
