Charles Joseph Burnett, 79, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 1:15 p.m.


He is survived by one son, Bart Stephens Burnett and wife Elaine Burnett of Tennessee; one daughter, Jody Lynn Burnett Lejeuene of Houma; companion of 26 years, Lou Foret of Houma; three grandchildren, Shelly H. Hebert Jr., Beau P. Hebert and Kaci R. Bourg; three great-grandchildren, Bronson Hebert, Kane Hebert and Anthony King; and four brothers, Donald J. Burnett and wife Reba of Bayou Black, La., Huey Burnett of Houston, Texas, Lou Gehrig Burnett of Shreveport, La., and Glenn D. Burnett and wife Liz of Houma.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigur H. Burnett and Sadie Giroir Burnett; two brothers, Jewett “Jack” Burnett and Carl “Jay” Burnett; and wife, Betty Jo Hebert Burnett.

He worked at United Gas Pipeline for 20 years and was the owner of Eastside Bowl for 15 years before he retired. He was Catholic and a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and sports. He used to coach Babe Ruth baseball and played softball for Texaco and other various teams. He was in the Hall of Fame for bowling.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Chauvin Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be at Bayou Black Cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
