Fay Joseph McElroy Sr., 86, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at 2:45 a.m.


He is survived by his wife, Roberta Dorsey McElroy; two sons, Fay McElroy Jr. and Daniel McElroy; six daughters, Melanie Pellegrin, Norma Theriot, Mary Matherne, Elizabeth LeBlanc, Julie Braud and Annette Fournier; one sister, Mel Sanders; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Donna McElroy, one son-in-law, Benny LeBlanc and his angel, Lauren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney James McElroy Sr. and Marie Clothilde Chauvin McElroy; his infant daughter, Alice McElroy; his three brothers, Sidney McElroy Jr., Charles McElroy and Hayes McElroy; one sister, Mildred Duplantis; and one infant sister, Norma McElroy.


Fay was a retired supervisor with Texaco. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1317. He served in the Louisiana National Guard during World War II.

He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2008, at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral with mass to follow. Internment will be in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 1.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
