Gilbert E. Brown Sr., 76, a native of Lockport, La. and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died Friday, Oct. 9, 6:20 a.m.
He is survived by his first wife, Gertrude V. Brown of Thibodaux; second wife, Shelia Allen of Larose, La.; four daughters, Joyce Brown of Thibodaux, Michelle Allen of Larose, and Irene Allen and Regina Allen Cantrelle of Cut Off, La.; seven sons, Gilbert Brown Jr. and Mark Allen of Lockport, Leroy Brown of Texas, Leonard Brown of Raceland, La., Gilbert Allen of Cut Off, and Micheal Allen and Sherman Allen of Larose; one brother, Charley Brown of Bayou Blue, La.; one sister, Delores Holmes of Bayou Blue; 39 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alma Brown; one daughter, Janice Brown; six brothers, Rev James Brown Sr., Rev Johnny Brown, Eunice Brown, Isaac Brown Sr., Andrew Brown Sr. and Levi Brown; and two sisters, Ethel Victor and Doretha Thomas.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at New Magnolia Baptist Church in Schriever, La. A religious service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial at Half Way Cemetery in Gray, La.
Kennedy Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
