Lloyd E. Ponson, 82, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Thursday, Sept. 10, at 3:23 a.m.

He is survived by four sons, Lloyd G. Ponson, Bruce E. Ponson, Don C. Ponson and Douglas “Doug” Ponson; two daughters, Janet “Jan” P. Bruce and Mary C. Ponson; one brother, Leroy Ponson; one sister, Ruby P. Dufrene; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet R. Ponson; parents, Isley J. and Louise Ponvelle Ponson; and one grandson, Joshua Lloyd Ponson.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Raceland. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW. He was retired from Exxon and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was an avid hunter and trawler and enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a military service at 9:30 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
