Philip E. Bouterie Jr., 72, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Tuesday, February 17.


He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Barrios and husband Julius; and nephews, Stephen Barrios and wife JoAnne of Baton RougeLa., and U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Scott Barrios and wife Erica of Oceanside, Ca.; great-nephew, Jude Stephen; great-niece, Ceci Scott; numerous cousins and friends; and his special soul mate, Paula Ninas of New Orleans, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Sr. and Marie Lagarde Bouterie; and brother, Edwin Bouterie.


He was a 1954 graduate of Thibodaux College and attended Nicholls State University for two years. He then attended LSU where he earned a degree in English. In 1960, he graduated from LSU with a Masters degree in social work. He worked and lived in New Orleans for more than 40 years. He retired from the State of Louisiana in 1995. He moved back to Thibodaux after evacuating from Hurricane Katrina in September 2005.

He was a great lover of the arts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Food Bank, 100 Birch St., Thibodaux, La., 70301.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, February 20, at Thibodaux Funeral Home with mass to follow at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
