In solemn remembrance, we announce the peaceful passing of Houma, LA resident Franklin “Bud” John Halbert at the age of 97. Bud passed away November 14, 2023, surrounded by his wife and family in his loving home.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation in his honor on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Samart Funeral Home (635 Bayou Blue Rd., Houma, LA) from 8:30 a.m. until Military Honors at 10:30 a.m and Religious Services at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery (Bourg, LA).


He bid farewell to this world, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and enduring love. He is survived by his loving wife, Era Mae Halbert; brother, Bill Brodie Halbert (Lynn); children, Jeff and LeAnne Halbert; and step-children, Joan Ledet and Leonard Ledet, Jr (Dee). Bud was known as “Papa Bud” to his twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and “Uncle Bud” to his many nieces and nephews.

Bud’s remarkable journey was marked by resilience, kindness, and a wealth of life experiences. His most notable career accomplishments include being a Marine Corps Veteran, part of the purchasing team at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which purchased the first nuclear reactor for the USS Enterprise, bringing the U.S. Navy to a nuclear-powered Navy. Later, he joined a three-man team and founded the Omega Health Club in Houston, Texas. Later in life, he and his wife became business owners and opened Era’s Embroidery in Houma.

He is Preceded in death by his parents, Avis and Dean Halbert, daughter Lori Halbert, step-children Jeanine Louviere and Mark Ledet, and siblings Deana Tesch, Jack Halbert, and Dean Halbert. His memory will forever echo in the hearts of those touched by his gentle spirit. As we mourn his departure, let us also celebrate a life well-lived, rich with moments that will be cherished for generations to come.
