John “Jack” Shutts who was born on December 7, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday November 21, 2023 at the age of 88.

He was married to his best friend and loving wife, Betty Jean Lofaso Shutts for 63 wonderful years.


He was an amazing father; grandfather and great grandfather and is survived by his Children, Jari Lynn Shutts Ring and husband Jasper, Patricia Shutts Spicuzza and husband Luke, James Shutts, John Shutts, and Mary Beth Shutts Doggett and husband Robert; Grandchildren, Jasper Ring and wife Evalyn, Joshua Ring, Jonathan Ring, Amanda King and husband Matthan, Christian Shutts, Rachel Spears and husband Parker, Terri Davis, Tracy Doggett and Stacy Dubois; and many loving Great grandchildren including Poppy Elayne King .

He is proceeded in death by his Parents, John and Emaruth “Billy” Shutts; and his in-laws, Frank and Hilda Lofaso.

Jack achieved the rank of Captain during his career in the United States Air Force from 1954-1956 and also the United Stated Air Force Reserves until 1973.


He was a member of St Mathew’s Episcopal Church and involved for many years with the Rotary Club and was dedicated with the Start Corp on many levels of service.

In his early years he loved fishing and hunting with his children and also at “One More Weekend” with lifelong friends Werner Hagen, Jimmy Hagen, Ken Boudreaux, Riley Rhodes and Jake Walker.

He will be truly missed by his family he held so close to his heart.


Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Houma, LA from 9:30am until service time with a recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 10:30am on Friday, December 8, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:30am. Inurnment/Burial will follow memorial services with Graveside at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St Mathews Episcopal Church of Houma, LA in his memory.
