Houma native Elijah McGuire has high hopes of playing in the NFL next season.

He will get a chance to increase the likelihood of that happening this weekend, while playing against some of the best players in the country.

McGuire will compete in the East-West Shrine game on Saturday afternoon – one of the most prestigious postseason collegiate all-star games in the country.

The game will kick off at 2 p.m., and it will be shown before a national audience on the NFL Network.

McGuire will play for the West team in the East vs. West format.

He will be looking to showcase himself before herds of NFL scouts, who will be in attendance.

McGuire is one of the best players in the history of the UL-Lafayette football program, the school’s all-time leader in All-Purpose yards.

He figures to be a mid-round pick in the draft, according to analysts.
