The Assumption girls’ volleyball team defeated E.D. White 2-0 (25-19, 25-12) to win the championship of the H.L. Bourgeois Lady Braves Classic, which was held Thursday and Saturday at H.L. Bourgeois High School in Gray.

The Lady Mustangs (11-1) were paced by a strong performance from Danielle Daigle, who finished the match with two kills, four digs, 15 assists and three aces.

Assumption also got support from Nekedra Dominique (six kills, three blocks) and Tamika Johnson (nine kills).

Tournament host H.L. Bourgeois finished third in their pool with a 2-2 record.

The Lady Braves (5-4) were forced to compete without junior outside hitter Sadie Hebert, who had sprained her ankle earlier in the week.

“Overall, I think we did pretty well,” said H.L. Bourgeois assistant coach Bridget Ballay. “It was tough, because we had a few people playing out of position because we lost Sadie. The tournament ran smooth – all of the teams were pleased and everyone faced good competition.”

Terrebonne coach Chip Didier agreed. The Lady Tigers (9-3) also finished third in pool play at 2-2 and lost to some formidable opponents along the way.

“We did pretty well,” he explained. “We lost to a good Ursuline team 22-20 in a third game, and we had game point three times and couldn’t pull it off.”
