There’s a Friday deadline for anyone interested in registering for the Tour du Teche II, a marathon for canoes, kayaks and pirogues that rolls through St. Mary Parish.

The race is a three-day, 135-mile staged race that will roll from St. Martinville before ending at the Atchafalaya River in Berwick.

Other shorter distanced races are available in each leg of the marathon for anyone who doesn’t want to participate in the full marathon.

The event begins Oct. 7 at 7 a.m. in Port Barre. That day also marks the Crawfish and Acadian Trail races.

The Crawfish is a 34-mile “sprint” to Breaux Bridge and the world’s longest race for the flat-bottom Cajun pirogue. The Acadian is 48 miles to St. Martinville, where the festivities after the first leg of TDTII are held.

The second day of the marathon resumes in St. Martinville, where the Hot Sauce and Sugar races will take place.

The Hot Sauce race is a 25-mile “sprint” to New Iberia, while the Sugar race is a 60-mile trek to Franklin.

From Franklin, day three of the event pushes to the event’s conclusion in Berwick. The final day of the marathon is dubbed the Oil & Gas day.

Registration for anyone interested in $110 per paddler for the Acadian, Sugar and Oil & Gas races and $100 for the Crawfish and Hot Sauce races.

Entry fees cover supper, breakfast before the race and another meal afterwards, as well as a t-shirt and cap.

Additional prizes will be available for participants.
