Nearly 10 years ago John Brady Jr. first envisioned bringing a PGA-style golf course to the Tri-parishes.

Three years ago, the project got its start. Under the signature of PGA golfer David Toms, LaTour Golf Club was born.

Despite Brady’s unexpected death in August 2008, his dream has officially been carried out, with the grand opening of the course on Friday, even if he wasn’t around to see it.

The official grand opening of the course, located at 300 La Tour Blvd. in Mathews, is a testament to all of Brady’s hard work, according to Rick Miller, general manager of the golf course.

“The story has been told many times, but this is the dream that Mr. John Brady Jr. had over 10 years ago. It has been in the development process for the last three years,” Miller said. “The real estate section is open and the golf course is now open. This will be the culmination of all his time and effort.”

To celebrate the opening, LaTour is hosting its inaugural “Golf Day” this Friday to commemorate the event.

Toms will conduct a special clinic for club members at the Mathews course. The John Brady Memorial Golf Tournament, benefiting the Clara Brady Family Foundation, will follow the clinic.

The members-only golf clinic begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a meet-and-greet with Toms. The John Brady Memorial Golf Tournament tees off at 11 a.m.

Unlike the clinic, the tournament is open to the public with a $100 registration fee.

“We’ll have food and beverages on the course,” Miller said. “Toms will be out there meeting with every group and maybe have a shot or two with everyone. We’ll have some stuff afterward.”

According to Miller, LaTour is more than a golf course; it’s also a community.

Aside from being the home of a championship signature golf course, it is a Master Planned Community that is set apart by the subdivision, and the planned first-class amenities, he said.

Since the course is located in the center of Lafourche Parish, Miller said he hopes LaTour Golf Club will be a cornerstone of development for years to come through golf, tennis, swimming, a fitness center and first-class dining facilities.

“It’s going to be a great day that’s been a long time coming,” he said. “We’re happy to open the doors and have everybody come see us. The golf course is fantastic and I think they’ll find out that the overall plan for the community and the operations here at the club are going to be well received.”
