Vandebilt trailed 22-20 heading into the half against a hungry Ellender team.

But the Terriers didn’t panic. – there was no need.

At least not with Evan Mistich in the lineup.

Mistich ran for two second-half touchdowns and threw for another to lead Vandebilt to a 42-34 victory over the Patriots Friday at Buddy Marcello Stadium.

Mistich’s last score of the game – a 14-yard run – sealed the win with 2:17 left to play.

“I told the players that I really hated how we started this game as a team, but the one thing I am happy about is the way we finished,” said Vandebilt coach Mark King. “We were down at half, but we finished hard and made plays when we had to.”

Mistich’s 139 yards rushing was trumped by teammate Curtis Welch, who netted 224 yards and three touchdowns for the Terriers (9-1 overall).

Meanwhile, Ellender running back Jesse Turner rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns.

“We played against a very good Vandebilt team, and we had our chances, but we still have to learn how to finish games,” said Patriots coach Tawaskie Anderson.

In spite of the loss, Ellender (4-6, 2-3) clinched a berth in the LHSAA Class 4A playoffs as a No. 23 seed. The Patriots travel to Eunice Friday.

No. 3 Vandebilt hosts No. 30 Leesville.

H.L. Bourgeois 35, South Lafourche 0

Grant Thibodaux, Jonathan Finch and Caleb Williams scored touchdowns to put the Braves up 21-0 in the first quarter.

H.L. Bourgeois (8-2, 6-0) never looked back and cruised to an easy win and the District 7-5A title.

Caleb Williams finished with 67 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

The Braves (No.13) host Dutchtown (No. 20) in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday.

Dutchtown defeated H.L. Bourgeois earlier this season in overtime, 41-35.

“Being home (in the playoffs) for us is big,” said Braves coach Randy Boquet. “When these players play in front of these fans, magic happens. I’m looking forward to having a magical night Friday.”

Caleb and Christian Williams and Jereme Lagarde lead a formidable H.L. Bourgeois rushing attack that has amassed 3,367 yards and 34 touchdowns through 10 games.

“It feels good to be recognized as a good running back, and I’m grateful to have such a good offensive line and good coaching,” Lagarde said. “Most of the credit belonging to Caleb, Christina and myself has to go to the offensive line though. If they have a bad night, we all do.”

Justin Danos gained 67 yards on the ground for the Tarpons, which finish their first season under Blyght Wunstell 0-6 in district and 1-9 overall.

Thibodaux 44, Terrebonne 14

Trovon Reed rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers (5-5, 5-1) to an easy win and help secure a berth in the Class 5A playoffs.

Thibodaux (No. 27) travels to Archbishop Rummel (No. 6) Friday.

The Tigers will try to pull off a first-round upset with an option offense that’s led by quarterback Donnie Morgan (561 rushing yards and two touchdowns).

Joining the attack are Brandon Duncan (518 yards, nine touchdowns), Trovon Reed (476 yards, six touchdowns) and Jasmine Williams (408 yards, five touchdowns).

But Thibodaux’s defense will be tested against Rummel running backs Jarrell Johnson and Andrel Johnson.

“Their (Rummel’s) strength is its offensive and defensive lines,” said Thibodaux coach Lenny Ford. “They’re big, physical kids and they have two good backs (Jarrell Johnson and Andrel Johnson) that take turns running the ball. But they haven’t seen many option teams this year and we’ll continue to do what we’ve been doing. It’s going to be a physical game.”

Terrebonne ends its first season under coach Gary Hill 2-8 overall and 1-5 in district play.

E.D. White 45, West St. Mary 7

Quarterback Drey Trosclair rushed for 112 yards and passed for 86 more and two touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a commanding win.

E.D. White’s defense held West St. Mary to less than 100 yards total offense and forced three turnovers.

The Cardinals enter the Class 3A playoffs as a No. 11 seed locking up with Loranger at home Friday.

Central Lafourche 67, Chalmette 14

Neal Foret rushed for 78 yards and four touchdowns to help the Trojans earn a decisive victory.

Andy Stewart also scored two touchdowns for Central Lafourche, which ends its season 5-5 overall and 4-2 in district.

South Terrebonne 18, Assumption 14

Kody Breaux scored a late touchdown from 11 yards out to help the Gators rally to win.

South Terrebonne finishes its season 5-5 overall and 3-3 in district.

Assumption finishes 4-6, 2-4.
