Monroe pumps in 32, HC beats Ellender

Georgetown-bound senior power forward Greg Monroe scored 32 points to lead Helen Cox to an 89-81 victory over Ellender Saturday.


The Cougars’ offense was also bolstered by the scoring touch of Justin Fairman (27 points), Calvin Thompson (11) and Taj Givens (10).


The Patriots (18-8, 0-1 in district) were led by Sterling Jones, who netted a game-high 35 points.

With the win, Helen Cox improved to 1-0 in district play and 19-6 overall.


Vandebilt 72, Belle Chasse 66


DeShawn Patterson (26 points) and Evan Mistich (19) propelled the Terriers to a District 8-4A win Friday at Vandebilt.

Mike Cantrell led the Cardinals with 28 points.


HLB 68, Central Lafourche 61


The Braves’ 24-point third-quarter lead would ultimately prove to be enough to hold off a late Trojans surge at Central Lafourche Friday.

Jordan Steib and Nathaniel Singleton led H.L. Bourgeois (15-9, 3-0) with 16 points apiece.


Ramond Henry scored 21 points for Central Lafourche (3-21, 0-4).


Thibodaux 98, South Terrebonne 58

Despite playing without leading scorer Trovon Coleman, Thibodaux got points from Demon Bolt (23), Bradley Ward (19), Brandon Thompson (11) and Donnie Morgan (10) in a decisive victory Friday.


With the win, the Tigers improved to 17-5 overall and 3-1 in district play.


Rondale Livas scored 15 points for the Gators (5-16, 0-3).

South Lafourche 55, Terrebonne 44


Cyle Fonseca poured in 22 points and Wesley Rhodes added 14 to pace the Tarpons past Terrebonne in a District 8-5A matchup Saturday.


South Lafourche improved to 18-4, 3-1 in district.

Terrebonne fell to 11-14, 1-2.

Vandebilt 70, Belle Chasse 44

The Lady Terriers exploded to a 22-0 first-quarter run to easily dismantle the Lady Cardinals Friday at Vandebilt.


Vandebilt got most of its scoring punch from Shakira Ross (game-high 25 points) and Cybil Washington (20).

Ellender 61, Helen Cox 30

The Lady Patriots led just 26-19 at the half, but increased their lead to 41-23 after three quarters and never looked back in a commanding win over a formidable Helen Cox team Saturday.

Ellender (25-3, 2-0) was led by Asia Williams (20 points), Deanna Allen (16) and Kerry Hampton (10).

Larissa Owens scored 12 points for the Lady Cougars (17-4, 1-1).

Thibodaux 85, South Terrebonne 29

The Lady Tigers made short work of the Lady Gators en route to earning an easy District 8-5A win Friday.

Thibodaux was led by Darachia Johnson (16 points). Also reaching double-digit scoring figures were Kyndra Davis (15), Bridget Brown and Danielle Carter (14 apiece).

South Terrebonne fell to 2-11 overall and remained winless in district action.

Central Lafourche 64, HLB 51

Kiera Smith scored 31 points, helping the Lady Trojans (13-14, 1-4) to a comfortable win over H.L. Bourgeois Friday.

The Lady Braves pulled to within three points in the third quarter, but it was as close as they’d get.

Tamitrius Bryant netted 18 points for H.L. Bourgeois (5-11, 1-4).

West St. Mary 42, E.D. White 37

Kathryn Stock poured in a game-high 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to help the Lady Cardinals outlast the Lady Wolfpack.

With the defeat, the Lady Cardinals dropped to 4-14 overall and 1-1 in district.

South Lafourche 48, Terrebonne 44

Beth Eymard hit a key lay up and Janee Lombas drained two foul shots to break a 44-44 tie and seal the Lady Tarpons’ win Friday.

Lombas scored 19 points for South Lafourche (17-8, 4-1 in district).

Terrebonne fell to 18-9, 3-2 in district.

Houma Christian 50, Reeves 27

The Lady Warriors got a big boost from Brittany Spotts’ 25 points in a non-district victory Friday.

Leah Washington added 10 points for Houma Christian (8-10).
