Nicholls State University’s softball coach Jenny Parsons has used many tools when recruiting athletes to play for the Lady Colonels, her birth order as a twin hasn’t been one – until now.

Twin sisters Megan and Brittany Marcet – standouts in Pearland, Texas – were looking for a college where they could continue to play softball together.

Only problem: Brittany, a catcher, and sister Megan, a pitcher, weren’t being recruited as a pair.

The Marcets officially signed last week to play at Nicholls State.

“Brittany has caught for Megan her whole life,” the coach explained. “They are inseparable and very talented athletes. Being a twin myself, I know what it is like to have that special connection. We are happy to have both of them.”

The Marcet twins prepped at Pearland High, and led the school to two District 24-5A titles.

Megan was named the 2006 USSA Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman and is a three-time letterman.

Brittany also has a decorated high school career, this year earning All-District, All-County, All-NFCA South Central Region and All-State honors. She was also selected as a NFCA All-American and was named the 2009 NFCA Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year.

Several softball powerhouses recruited Brittany, according to Nicholls Sports Information Director Brandon Rizzuto.

Both will suit up for the Colonels starting next year.

In addition to the Marcet twins, the Lady Colonels also signed Katie Moulder of League City, Texas.

Moulder is a standout at Clear Creek High School, where Nicholls all-time hitting leader Kat Harrell prepped.

For Clear Creek, Moulder pitched and played infield and, in her junior year, was named District MVP, voted All-County Player of the Year and All-Greater Houston Area second team as a pitcher. She also led the Houston area with 315 total strikeouts.

“She is a very strong pitcher that moves the ball well,” Parsons said of Moulder.

“She is an outstanding competitor and is a total team player.”

Now that Parsons has her early signing class in place, she is expecting all three recruits to contribute right away.

“All three of these young ladies will be great assets to our program,” she said. “They bring with them to Nicholls a strong academic mindset.”
