Golf tournament returns to Ellendale


The Capital One Golf Classic returns to Houma’s Ellendale Country Club Thursday, June 21, through Sunday, June 24.


Practice rounds (on Monday and Tuesday, June 18 and 19) and a Pro-Am (Wednesday, June 20) will precede the three-round, 72-hole tournament.

Entry deadline for club members is today (Wednesday) at 5 p.m.


Nonmember entries will be accepted on a space-available basis until Monday, June 18.


The Capital One Classic is a part of the new Adams Golf Pro Tour Series.

Bayouland sports


The Bayouland YMCA’s Summer Youth Soccer season will run from Monday, June 11 through Tuesday, June 19.

Registration is open for children ages 3 through 11 at a cost of $30.00 for members and $60 for nonmembers.


The Y’s Summer Youth Basketball season will also run from Monday, June 11 through Tuesday, June 19.


Registration is open for children ages 5 through 12 at a cost of $30 for members and $60 for nonmembers.

A one-time registration fee of $10 is required for both sports seasons.


Summer Swim Lessons also begin in June for children ages 3 months old (Parent and Tot class) and up.

Water fitness


Water aerobics and lap swimming will be offered at the Lafourche Municipal Pool on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30 a.m. this summer.

Women’s hoops


Mark Cook’s FUN-damentals Day Camp will be held Monday through Wednesday, June 18 through 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at Nicholls State University’s Stopher Gymnasium.

Fundamental skills such as ball-handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, defense and FUN will be emphasized during each session. The camp is open to girls entering grades 2 through 5.


Cost is $110.

Mark Cook’s Girls’ Skills Camp is designed to prepare players for high school varsity competition.

The overnight camp will run Sunday through Tuesday, July 8 through 10, at Stopher Gymnasium and is open to girls entering grades 5 through 11.

Nicholls State University Women’s Basketball TEAM CAMP 2007 will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, July 10 and 11, in both Stopher and Shaver gymnasiums.

Cost is $310 per team. Housing and meals can be purchased at an additional cost.

Camp Piper

J.P. Piper’s Father and Son Basketball Day Camp will run Saturday, June 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Nicholls State University’s Stopher Gymnasium.

The camp will include instruction for the sons and tips and suggestions for the fathers on how to help their sons become better basketball players.

The camp is open to boys in grades 1 through 8.

Cost is $80. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt.

Baseball camp

Vandebilt High School’s 2007 Summer Baseball Camp will run Monday through Thursday, June 18 through 21 and 25 through 28, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

The camp is open to players ages 7 through 13 at $70 per session (and $60 per session for a second child). Each participant receives a camp t-shirt.

The camp will be conducted by Vandebilt assistant coaches Keith Richard and Corey Sullivan, along with varsity players from the Terriers lineup.

The deadline to register for the second session is June 25.
