Week 2 news and notes in the Tri-parishes:

1.5: The number of yards standing between South Lafourche and their first win of the season. With the Tarpons up by four points with less than five minutes to play, South Lafourche muffed a handoff at the goal line, allowing Plaquemine to regain the football, nullify the scoring threat and take over the game in the final seconds.

485: The number of total yards South Terrebonne’s high-powered offense accumulated in a blowout win against Terrebonne. The Gators are now 2-0 on the season, scoring more than 40 points in each win.

2: The number of wins for H.L. Bourgeois after a comeback win Friday against Ellender. The Braves have now matched last season’s win total with their 2-0 start. H.L. Bourgeois was 2-8 last season.

SportsNet Week 2 Players of the Week:

Bronze: South Lafourche quarterback Seth Griffin, Sure, Griffin is always on the list of contenders. But how can you keep off a guy who does everything for his team? Griffin rushed for 167 yards and threw for close to 70 more in the Tarpons’ loss to Plaquemine.

Silver: Patterson quarterback Justice Jones- Where Griffin is a scrambler and a playmaker, Jones is a more polished pocket passer, bleeding Central Lafourche’s secondary to the tune of 20-of-27 passing with 263 yards and four touchdowns.

Gold: South Terrebonne halfback Jaquis Flores, There’s little that can keep South Terrebonne standout Jaquis Flores from the end zone. One week after dominating Miller McCoy Academy, the Gators’ flanker rushed for 121 yards and received for 124 more with two total touchdowns in South Terrebonne’s rout of rival Terrebonne.

The Super 6 power rankings (ranking Casey Gisclair’s six best Tri-parish teams):

1. Patterson, Patterson missed the opening week of the season due to Tropical Storm Lee. It sure didn’t show in a shutout road rout of a Class 5A opponent. Expect these guys to sit at No. 1 for a while, if not all season.

2. Central Catholic, Kudos to the Eagles for scoring a win over last season’s Class 1A state champions. Central Catholic has high hopes to be that team this year. If they keep going strong, they just might be. For now, they are this week’s biggest leaping team in the standings.

3. South Terrebonne, While other teams steal the headlines, the Gators have continually earned wins, rolling to a 2-0 start. South Terrebonne is still mad they missed the playoffs last year. It shows. These guys have a powerful offense.

4. E.D. White, The Cardinals dive a few steps to No. 4 with a Friday night loss to Assumption. But there’s no shame losing to the Mustangs and I promise the Cardinals will be making waves again sooner, rather than later.

5. H.L. Bourgeois, Will the Braves’ 2-0 start last? Maybe, maybe not. But when you’re unbeaten, you still need a seat at the table, even if it does last just a few weeks.

6. Thibodaux, Thibodaux is 0-2 on the season. But the Tigers have lost close, hard-fought games with some of Class 5A’s best teams. When the schedule lessens, expect Thibodaux to be in the mix.
