Suspect(s) sought after driving car into area convenience store

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is offering a reward to anyone who may have information that may lead to the arrest of a man wanted in connection to burglaries, which occurred at three Larose businesses last week.

Around 1 a.m. on Nov. 21, authorities believe a suspect broke into three businesses, breaking into a daiquiri shop, a ire safety services company and then a convenience store on East Main Street.

In the convenience store burglary, video surveillance captured the suspect attempting to manually break the store’s glass double doors.

When unsuccessful, the suspect drives his car through the glass, while proceeding to then steal merchandise from the location and also hundreds of dollars in cash.

Video footage depicts a man about 5-feet, 10-inches tall.

At the time of the crimes, he was wearing a dark-colored hoodie, light blue pants and a Pittsburgh Steelers winter cap.

He drove away in a late-model Nissan Altima with its hubcaps removed.

Anyone with information about the crimes are asked to call the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Tips which lead to an arrest could make one eligible for a $1,000 fine.

To offer information, call 1-800-743-7433. Tipsters can remain nameless if they choose to do so.

Hunter education courses offered this December

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced last week that his office will host a free hunter education classroom course as well as a hunter education field day in December for anyone ages 10 or older.

According to a news release issued by LPSO, the classroom course will be a two-day course that will cover topics such as hunter responsibility and ethics; how firearms work and firearms safety; survival and first aid skills; firearm handling skills and hunting techniques; wildlife identification; game care; and information related to wildlife conservation and management.

The classroom course will take place from Dec. 10-11, and the first day will be held from 8 a.m. 5 p.m. at the Lafourche Parish Government Complex in Mathews.

The next day will take place at LPSO’s Shooting Range, located at 3451 La. Highway 182 in Raceland.

LPSO emphasizes participants must attend both days of the class and pass a written and practical exam to receive formal certification.

To register for the course, visit www.lpsonews.net.

In addition to the classroom course, the sheriff’s office will also hold a field day on Dec. 14 from 4:30 9:30 p.m. to promote hunter education.

The field day is an alternative to the two-day course, in which participants can take a home study course online through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website. From there, they can bring their completion voucher to the field day to complete their hunter education course.

The field day will take place at the LPSO Shooting Range.

Entry to the day will be denied if one shows up without completed forms from the LDWF online course.

One must take a written test on site to finish the certification.

Thibodaux student accused of gun violation

A Thibodaux High School senior was arrested before the holiday break for allegedly taking a gun to the school’s campus.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said last week that Brennan Garman, 17, of Thibodaux, was arrested after administrators were notified about a weapon being inside his vehicle while on school grounds.

Garman is a senior at Thibodaux and is a member of the school’s football team.

The release said Garman was charged with carrying a firearm by a student at school.

He was released shortly after his arrest on bond.

Authorities said Garman didn’t have plans to use the weapon and no one was threatened in the incident.

A school administrator made contact with Thibodaux’s School Resource Officer on Nov. 16 after learning that Garman possibly had a firearm in his vehicle.

The officer made contact with the suspect and escorted him to the vehicle, and Garman allegedly admitted to having the 9 mm weapon inside the center console of the vehicle.

The officer secured the weapon and placed Garman under arrest.
