Leadership Terrebonne 2023 has officially brought back community projects!

“Leadership Terrebonne has done some projects in the past, but overtime that went away–we wanted to reintroduce our projects again this year so that our groups can work to make a lasting impact on the community,” explained Karen Schilling with Leadership Terrebonne. “We divided the class up into four groups, and each one picked something in the community they wished to do and created a project to help out.” Check out the other Leadership Terrebonne Projects, Rock Da Boot, Light Up Downtown Houma, and Downtown Houma Christmas Decorations, and how they’re already helping improve the local community.

The fourth and final Leadership Terrebonne group has set out on a mission to beautify Houma, with plans to install 20 self-watering, hanging planters on the light posts from the Courthouse Square to the Bayou Walk. The planters, installed by group members and volunteers soon, will add vibrant pops of color to downtown Houma with the help of Houma Downtown Development Corporation (HDDC) funding.

“We are all working to bring back our downtown from the devastation of Hurricane IDA and loss of business from COVID. There are multiple campaigns to encourage people to come back downtown and participate in the functions that we have,” reads the official presentation from the Leadership Terrebonne group. “More and more people are accepting the challenge and are showing up for events, so our group wanted to empower this growth by beautifying downtown.”

The addition of hanging planters are projected to not only bring beauty to the area, but also drive local sales, increase tourism, stimulate economic development, increase events, and create community engagement.

Members of this Leadership Terrebonne group include Ethan Adams, Henri Boulet, Peter Guidry, Sheena Henry, Larke Leonard, Matthew Ortego, Misty McElroy, and Amanda Thibodeaux. The planters are not currently hanging, but stay tuned for an announcement for when they are up and ready to be enjoyed!
